Chat Channels

General#

Three channels run at the same time, and your speaking channel decides which one you are talking in. You can see messages from a channel you are not speaking in, which is why chat can look busy before you know what is what.

Channel Who Sees It
Global Everyone on the network. A player on Survival sees your message sent from Skyblock.
Server Only players on the server you are standing on.
Island Your island's members, wherever they are.

Server is the default. Switch with /channel, which lists the channels you can talk in, or set it from the Speaking Channel tile in preferences. To send a single message to global without switching, use /g <message>.

If you lose access to a channel, for example by leaving an island, your speaking channel drops back to Server rather than leaving your messages going nowhere.

Hiding A Channel#

Each channel has its own visibility toggle in /preferences, all on by default. Turning one off hides that channel's messages without changing where you speak, so you can talk in global while ignoring server chat.

Turning off all three means you see no player chat at all.

Hover Cards#

Hovering a player's name in chat shows a card with their rank and name, plus their stats on that server: island reputation, money, quests completed and fish caught. Which lines appear depends on the server, since a stat that does not exist there is left out.

Private Messages#

/msg <player> <message> sends a private message, and it crosses servers, so you can message a friend on Outbreak from Skyblock. /tell and /w do the same thing.

Chat Perks#

Some ranks unlock extras in chat:

  • Colour codes in your messages.
  • [item] anywhere in a message expands into the item you are holding, so other players can hover it to see the full item.

Chat Filter#

Blocked terms are rejected before the message sends, so nobody else sees them. Attempts stack: five blocked messages inside 30 minutes earns a 10 minute mute, and the count fades on its own if you stop. It is automatic, so there is nobody to argue with about it.

Some terms are treated as serious enough to ban on rather than mute. See the network rules for what is expected.
