Molotov
General#
The Molotov does no burst damage and no barricade damage. What it does is make a piece of floor unusable for twenty seconds, which against a zombie team that has to come through a door is frequently worth more than any amount of damage.
Stats#
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Detonation | On impact |
| Fire duration | About 20 seconds |
| Burst damage | None |
| Barricade damage | None |
| Throw cooldown | 1.5 seconds |
Getting One#
Rare in ordinary chests and reasonably common in Legendary chests. Craftable from 1 Alcohol and 1 Cloth, which are two of the least contested materials in the game. It is not sold in the Item Shop.
Chance within the weapon category of each chest tier:
| Common Chest | Rare Chest | Legendary Chest |
|---|---|---|
| 0.6% | 2.1% | 4.1% |
Using It#
Throw it where zombies must go rather than where they are: the doorway they are breaking, the bottom of the stairwell, the corridor behind you as you retreat. Twenty seconds is close to a third of the time it takes a group of zombies to chew through an oak door, so a well-placed Molotov can reset an entire push.
Burning three humans to death is its own daily quest, which in practice means throwing one at a scanned infected player or at the round's starting zombies.
Molotov or Grenade#
| Molotov | Grenade | |
|---|---|---|
| Burst damage | None | Up to 40 |
| Area control | About 20 seconds | Seconds |
| Breaks barricades | No | Heavily |
| Materials | 1 Alcohol, 1 Cloth | 5 Scrap Metal, 2 Gunpowder |
Molotovs are far cheaper, because Alcohol and Cloth compete with almost nothing else while Scrap Metal competes with everything. If you are choosing what to craft with limited materials, Molotovs are usually the better use of a slot.
