Grenade
General#
The Grenade is the human answer to a crowd. It is the only weapon a survivor can use that hits an entire room at once, and it does more damage to barricades than anything else in the game, including the Remington 700.
Stats#
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Fuse | 3 seconds |
| Blast radius | 7 blocks |
| Maximum damage | 40 at the centre |
| Barricade damage | 30 |
| Throw cooldown | 1.5 seconds |
| Leaves fire | Yes, briefly |
Damage falls off toward the edge of the blast, and the explosion throws zombies backward.
Getting One#
Rare in ordinary chests and reasonably common in Legendary chests. Craftable from 5 Scrap Metal and 2 Gunpowder. It is not sold in the Item Shop.
Chance within the weapon category of each chest tier:
| Common Chest | Rare Chest | Legendary Chest |
|---|---|---|
| 0.6% | 2.1% | 4.1% |
Using It#
The knockback matters as much as the damage. Scattering a group of zombies off a doorway buys a defending team several seconds, and separated zombies are far easier to deal with than a stack of them.
Against a barricade, a grenade is often the fastest way through by a wide margin. That cuts both ways: a survivor can blow open their own defences, and a grenade is the standard way of opening a route out of a room you have sealed too well.
The three second fuse means you have to lead where zombies will be, not where they are. Against a Sprinter or a Hellhound that is a genuinely hard throw.
Cost#
At 5 Scrap Metal apiece, grenades compete directly with armor, ammunition and gun crafting for the most contested material in the game. A single grenade costs the same scrap as an iron helmet.
