Zombies

General#

Zombies pick a class before they spawn. Only the Normal zombie is free: the other twelve are bought once with gold in the lobby and are yours permanently after that.

Changing class never kills you. Your selection applies the next time you respawn, and you can even swap during the few seconds you spend waiting to come back.

The Power Meter#

Every ability costs power, shown as the number above your hotbar while you are a zombie. Power runs 0 to 100, refills at 2 per second, and you always spawn full. Fifty seconds takes you from empty to full.

Abilities have a cooldown on top of the power cost, and both have to clear before you can fire. A cheap ability with a long cooldown is limited by the clock, an expensive one by the recharge. The Nuker costs the full meter, so it is strictly one detonation per fifty seconds.

Your ability always sits in the fifth hotbar slot, and you spawn holding it.

Lives and Cooldowns#

The strong classes are rationed, per round:

  • Lives are how many times you can die as that class before it locks. Your action bar counts them down.
  • Once they run out the class locks to you for a set time, then hands back the full set of lives. Meanwhile you drop to the Normal zombie.
  • Some classes cannot be picked at all for the first part of the round, which stops an opening rush of Tanks.

Everything resets when a new round starts.

Being a Zombie#

Whatever class you pick, all zombies share the same baseline:

  • Permanent night vision and water breathing, so a dark map is never a problem for you.
  • A health bar and radiation number floating over every human's head, so you always know who is nearly turned.
  • Your held item is hidden from humans unless your class deliberately shows it.
  • You cannot damage other zombies by any means.
  • You cannot open chests, barrels or any other container. Looting is a human privilege.
  • Hunger is locked at three shanks and never moves.

Respawning zombies avoid spawn points with a human standing nearby, and you are invisible and untouchable for the few seconds it takes you to come back. There is also a suicide item in your hotbar if you would rather respawn somewhere more useful.

Breaking In#

Humans will barricade. Hold left-click on a barricade to break through, and bring friends: damage stacks with every zombie hitting the same block, so four zombies break a door four times faster. A Tank counts as two.
