Lurker

General#

The Lurker is the ambush class. It collapses into what looks like a corpse and waits, which works because corpses are lootable and survivors are always short of gear.

It is slow and it is not built to chase. Everything about it assumes the survivors come to you.

Stats#

Cost 3,000 gold
Rank Platinum
Health 10 hearts
Melee damage 2
Movement Slow
Lives 2, then locked for 90 seconds
Available 90 seconds into the round

Ten hearts ties the Tank for the largest health pool, which matters because ambushes usually start at point-blank range.

Ability: Play Dead#

Costs 40 power, 5 second cooldown after breaking camouflage.

You drop to the ground as a corpse and stay there. Looking around is fine and small shifts in pose will not give you away, but taking an actual step breaks it, as does moving more than a block and a half from where you lay down.

Playing It#

Location is the entire class. Lie down where a survivor has a reason to walk:

  • Next to a real corpse, where the fake one will not stand out
  • Beside a loot chest that has not been opened yet
  • Just inside a doorway that a group is about to move through
  • At the bottom of the stairs a group is retreating down

The five second cooldown after standing up means a failed ambush is a real cost, so wait for someone to commit rather than popping up at the first sound. With ten hearts you can afford to let them get properly close.
