Ranks

General#

Outbreak has two ranks. Platinum includes everything Gold has, so they stack rather than compete: anywhere the game checks for Gold, Platinum satisfies it.

Neither rank is needed to play any part of the game. Both change the pre-round Item Shop in a way that is felt every round, and Platinum adds the one perk that touches the round itself.

Your rank is shown on your scoreboard in the lobby. In-game, the menus point you at /buy.

The Two Ranks#

Default Gold Platinum
Item Shop slots 3 4 5
Zombie class prices Full 25% off 50% off
Exclusive classes Hellhound, Screamer Spitter, Nuker, Lurker
Exclusive weapons Desert Eagle M4 Carbine
Weekly Mailbox gold 500 1,500
Team preference Yes

Loadout Slots#

The perk that matters most in practice, and the one people underestimate.

You do not buy items in the Item Shop, you buy slots, and items of the same type merge into one slot. So a slot can hold a single Gas Mask or a full stack of Bandages for the same cost in slots.

Slots What fits
3 Gas Mask, one healing stack, one weapon
4 The above plus crafting materials or a second healing type
5 Mask, both healing types, a weapon and materials

Survivors who finish a round alive keep their entire loadout into the next round for free, so the advantage compounds across a winning streak.

Rank-Locked Content#

Five of the thirteen zombie classes and two of the seventeen guns sit behind a rank:

Neither locked weapon can be found in a loot chest either, so those two are genuinely rank-only. Every other gun in the game is available to everyone through loot or crafting.

What the Discount Is Worth#

The class discount applies to all twelve purchasable zombie classes, including ones a rank cannot actually buy.

Full roster cost Saving
Default 37,600
Gold 28,200 9,400
Platinum 18,800 18,800

A Platinum player buys every class in the game for what a default player pays for half of them. Per-class prices are on each rank's page.

What Ranks Do Not Change#

Worth stating plainly, because it is a common assumption:

  • No gold earning bonus. Payouts for kills, infections, damage and survival time are identical at every rank.
  • No weapon upgrade advantage. Upgrades are bought with parts collected in-round, and rank does not affect drop rates or costs.
  • No in-round combat advantage. Health, damage, radiation and infection rates are the same for everyone.
  • No loot advantage. Chests roll identically whoever opens them, apart from applying that player's own upgrades.

The advantage is entirely in what you can bring into a round and which classes you can play, not in how the round treats you once it starts.
