Parts

General#

Parts are the currency of permanent progression. They are not gold and they cannot be bought: the only way to get them is to walk over them during a round.

They are collected automatically the moment you touch them, they take up no inventory space, and they are kept permanently across rounds. Check your balance with /collectables, or from the Upgrades menu.

The Five#

Part Rarity Gates
Metal Components The most common by far Everything, in bulk
Plastic Components Common Magazine and accuracy lines
Rubber Parts Common Reload and magazine lines
Adhesive Uncommon Damage, fire rate and accuracy lines
Weapon Mods The rarest in the game Damage, fire rate and accuracy lines

Scrap Metal and Gunpowder also drop from the same category, but those are crafting materials rather than upgrade currency.

Weapon Mods Are the Bottleneck#

Weapon Mods are the rarest thing in the parts pool at every chest tier, and they gate the three lines that most change how a weapon feels: High Powered, Quick Fire and Precision Sights.

The other three lines, Fast Reload, Extended Mag and Ammo Bag, never ask for Weapon Mods at all. That is why most players fill those out first without really deciding to: they are the ones you can actually afford.

If you are hoarding Weapon Mods, spend them on a weapon you will genuinely find. A maxed damage line on the Scar-L or Glock-19, which you can craft on demand, pays out far more often than the same investment in a gun you see once a night.

Where They Drop#

Parts come from the parts category of every loot chest tier. Better chests roll that category more times and weight the rare parts more heavily.

Part Common Rare Legendary
Metal Components 25.5% 23.5% 17.0%
Rubber Parts 17.3% 15.7% 14.0%
Plastic Components 16.6% 15.7% 13.5%
Adhesive 8.9% 10.4% 13.0%
Weapon Mods 3.3% 5.3% 8.9%
Gunpowder 21.3% 22.0% 25.3%
Scrap Metal 7.1% 7.3% 8.4%

Percentages are the chance within the parts category. That category rolls up to 3 items in a common chest, 4 in a rare one and 5 in a Legendary one, so the practical difference between tiers is larger than the percentages alone suggest.

Farming Them#

Parts are the one thing you keep from a round no matter how it goes. A survivor who dies in the first minute with forty Metal Components in their pocket still banked forty Metal Components.

That makes opening chests worthwhile even in a losing round, and it makes the aggressive early looting that gets people killed considerably less costly than it looks.
