S1897

General#

The S1897 gives up damage per shell against the other two shotguns and gets a tube of eight in return. Nine pellets at 8 damage is still 72 on a full hit, which kills anything in the game, and you can do it eight times.

This is the survivor's answer to a coordinated zombie push, and the only shotgun you can plan on having rather than hope to find.

Stats#

Stat Value
Class Shotgun
Ammunition 12 Gauge Shells
Damage 8 per projectile, 9 projectiles per shot (72 on a full hit)
Magazine 8
Rate of fire 55 rounds/min
Reload 1.5 seconds (per shell)
Starting ammo 2 of 8
Accuracy 0.15 spread (0.09 aimed)
Scoped No
Barricade damage 3

Reloading is shell by shell, so topping up a partly-used tube is quick but filling it from empty is not.

Getting One#

Found in chests, and craftable from an S1897 Base plus 3 Scrap Metal. The base is 120 gold in the Item Shop, which makes a full shotgun cheaper than a Katana.

Extended Mag pushes the tube well past its already class-leading capacity. Combined with 12 Gauge being the cheapest ammunition to craft, a maxed S1897 is arguably the strongest sustained defensive weapon a human can build.
